Washington County Surpasses Goal, Preserving Over 50 Farms
As of April 2026, the Washington County Farmland Preservation Board has protected 7,926 acres across 53 farms, including a new expansion into South Franklin Township. By purchasing voluntary conservation easements, the program allows landowners to retain their property while ensuring it remains permanently available for agriculture. This initiative bolsters Pennsylvania’s nation-leading preservation efforts, sustaining the local economy, rural character, and future food security through dedicated partnerships between the Board and local farmers.
Applications for 2027 consideration must be mailed to the Washington County Planning Commission by September 30, 2026. Residents interested in a local farmland preservation workshop should contact their township or borough office to make a request.
Mark your calendars for March 23, 2027. PA FarmLink will be hosting an information session on Farm Succession; stay tuned for registration links and further details.
