The Washington County District Attorney is seeking a full-time Assistant District Attorney for the Juvenile Court Division.  This position is responsible for prosecuting felony and misdemeanor cases involving juveniles. The successful applicant will work closely with the staff of Juvenile Court, the Juvenile Probation Office, local school representatives, and various agencies to ensure that the community is protected and the interests of the juvenile are served.

The Assistant District Attorney shall perform professional legal work in the evaluation, processing, and prosecution of criminal cases to a fair and just disposition in the Washington County Juvenile Court system. The Assistant District Attorney will develop trial strategy for cases, determine sentence recommendations, and attend various court calendars.  The Assistant District Attorney will be responsible for ascertaining the facts of the case, working closely with law enforcement, secure expert testimony and prepare witnesses for trial.  The ideal candidate must be proficient in legal research and be able to communicate effectively.  The ability to work independently and in a team setting when needed is also necessary. 

Minimum requirements include being in good standing and admitted to practice before the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits, offering an exciting opportunity to gain valuable legal experience while serving Washington County. Starting salary of $77,554.

The Washington County Public Defender’s office is seeking to hire a FT Assistant Public Defender – Trial Attorney to represent indigent defendants at all criminal proceedings.

 

A Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in Pennsylvania (member of the Pennsylvania Bar) are required, as is prior experience as an attorney.  A thorough knowledge of the law, the court system and legal proceedings is essential, as is the ability to perform legal research.  The incumbent must remain current in the law through continuing education.  The incumbent will deal directly with inmates, frequently in the Correctional Facility, and must be aware of the physical risks that may be involved. Computer skills are necessary.

 

Starting salary - $77,254

            The Court of Common Pleas is hiring a part-time CJAB Coordinator. The CJAB Coordinator provides administrative support for the operation of the Washington County Criminal Justice Advisory Board (CJAB).  The Coordinator works with the Court, County, and criminal justice offices to evaluate and enhance the criminal justice system.  This position is within the Court Administration Department. The Coordinator reports directly to the CJAB Chair and the District Court Administrator.

            The Coordinator schedules and organizes meetings, attends conferences, and assists in setting strategic priorities.  A general understanding of the functioning  of the criminal justice system is essential, as well as the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

            A bachelor’s degree is required. Two years of criminal justice related experience is preferred, but not required.

            This is a part-time contract position.  The Coordinator is expected to work approximately two (2) days per week, on average.  Compensation shall be provided at the rate of $2,500 per month ($30,000 annually) in accordance with an annual contract.  As an independent contractor, this position is not eligible for employee benefits.

            The Court of Common Pleas is hiring a full-time Treatment Courts Coordinator.  The Treatment Courts Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring the non-judicial activities of the treatment courts program (Drug Treatment Court, DUI Treatment Court, Mental Health Treatment Court, and Veterans Treatment Court).  This position is within the Court Administration Department.  The Coordinator reports directly to the President Judge and the District Court Administrator. 

 

            The Coordinator facilitates the referral process, schedules all court hearings/graduation ceremonies, and coordinates precourt staff meetings to ensure the team evaluates participant progress efficiently. The Coordinator acts as the central point of contact, ensuring relevant case updates are communicated clearly between all team members. The Coordinator ensures the program’s compliance with best practices, develops grant applications, and pursues other needed resources required to optimize outcomes. A thorough understanding of the interrelationship among the courts, law enforcement, corrections, and substance abuse treatment programs is essential.

 

            A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a closely related behavioral science field is required, along with at least five years of experience in the criminal justice system, including direct work with the courts.  Additional experience in the substance abuse field is preferred, but not required. 

 

            Compensation shall be provided at the rate of $73,500 annually, with standard Washington County employee benefits.

The Washington County Court of Common Pleas/ Probation Services Department are seeking to hire part-time Booking Center Monitor and part-time Probation Monitor Positions.  The Booking Center Monitor positions are responsible for completing tasks in all facets of the Booking Center operation during their shift; ensuring proper and correct criminal history recording and transmission; handle protected information and comply with auditing requirements and the Criminal History Records Information Act (CHRIA). The Probation Monitor position requirements include tasks related to drug testing collections and electronic monitoring hook-ups, equipment replacement, scheduling, and any other electronic monitoring duties. 

If considered for a Probation Monitor Position other job factors may be required, such as working non-traditional shifts, using computer-based systems, and dealing with offenders and victims within the criminal justice system.  A bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, an associate’s degree or a reliable work history may be considered.  Applicants must be able to pass child clearances, a criminal background check, and a physical, which includes drug screening. Applicants must have limited restrictions on hours and be prepared to work nights and weekends.  Applicants should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, and in general be comfortable with computer-based applications.

The Washington County Probation Services Department is seeking to hire a full-time Courts Collections Officer.  Work involves the ability to communicate effectively in person, computer skills, learning aspects of the criminal justice system, court orders, and sentencing options.  Involvement with statewide criminal justice databases, and general collection of fines, costs, and monetary functions occurs daily. Specific attention to court orders and entering information into established databases is required.  

 

Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative superior. Assignments and day-to-day work are very policy driven and carried out in accordance with general work instructions, including established practices and procedures, and applicable legal standards or regulations.  A final offer of employment is contingent on the applicant passing a full background investigation, psychological assessment, required clearances, drug screen, and post-employment physical requirements.

The starting salary is $45,766.50, with advancement opportunities, and the position also receives a generous benefits package, including family health insurance, retirement contribution and wellness benefits/activities for both employees and their families.

 

The position will automatically progress to a Caseworker 2 after completion of one year of service at an annual salary of $53,098.50.

 

The position investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect and performs social service and case management supportive services to children, youth and families.  An important aspect of this work is the employment of casework skills in obtaining essential information, counseling clients and members of their families and helping them utilize all available resources.

 

A bachelor's degree, which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or other related social sciences; OR two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college-level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions is required.  Strong interpersonal skills are necessary.  Microsoft Office skills are required.
